Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common virus which can be harmful to certain infants during the first two years of life. Synagis, the vaccine indicated to combat the RSV virus is specifically indicated for the prevention of lower respiratory tract (LRT) disease in pediatric patients at high risk of RSV disease, such as infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a history of premature birth (< 35 weeks gestational age) or hemodynamically significant congenital heart disease (CHD).
Professional Home Care Services managed over 800 premature babies during the 2003-2004 winter season with great success. When compared to published data Professional's RSV Infection Prevention Program achieved improved compliance (more timely dosing), resulting in fewer infections requiring hospitalization.
